Thugs assault NRGO Staff, make off with UGX 26M

Unspecified amounts of money, phones, computers among other office equipment have been robbed from the offices of DOING GOOD, a local Non-Governmental Organization in Rubaga.

According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, five staff members were also injured in the attack that was carried out by 8 unidentified thugs armed with breaking implements.

Onyango explains that the thugs gained access to the offices by jumping the perimeter wall, beat up the watchmen, before breaking the doors at around 3:30am this morning. There were 14 members of staff in office and 5 of them were assaulted using the break-in implements.

The thugs made away with UGX 26,000,000, 8 laptops and 9 phones as well as jewelry. Police was called and rushed to the scene of crime with ambulances that took the injured staff to Nakasero hospital for treatment.

By this afternoon, detectives were still at the scene gathering evidence that could have been left behind by the thugs that can be used in ongoing investigations.
“One suspect has been arrested to help us with our investigations. We are not disclosing his identity now. It might jeopardize investigations” Onyango said.
